Watching the Watchmen

Someone needs to do this. Seriously. And I'm tired of waiting for anyone else to do it. The Postmodern Peacock is the result of more than five years of frustration with both academic and secular literay/cinematic/music criticism. In the years since mass adoption of the internet, criticism has become a thriving literary genre of its own, one that encompasses thousands of writers - and yet, somehow, the field still lacks of variety. Part of the problem is that critics have long since left the realm of accountability. They may argue with one anothers' opinions, but no one is critiquing their basic style, their methods of criticism. It's time someone did. I may not be the ideal person for this. After all, a few years in academia left me frustrated with the very idea of literary criticism. But I'm hoping to at least start a trend. I'm hoping that by analyzing reviews and criticisms I'll become a better critic myself, and I'll make bad critics accountable - at least a little - for their style and opinions. Criticism shouldn't exist in a cultural vacuum.
